Breaking the Cycle

Harold AttanoHarold Attano, Promo

Harold sits, miserable, locked in a cage, across from him, the man keeping him from his daughter.

“You know, her mother left me a letter… she thanked me for the moments we had between chaos.  She told me that she was dying, Klaus.  I never forgot about them.  Whenever I got paid, however I got paid, I made sure Michaela and her mother were taken care of.  Michaela’s mother gave me my last mission, and that was to be her father.”

Harold repositioned himself to face his foe.

“Klaus, I know you know why you don’t want me to speak with Michaela, because the moment she sees her mother’s handwriting and sees the contents, that’s the moment your control slips.  Gone is the cycle of abuse she’s had to endure at your hands.”

Harold looks at the shackles on his hands and sighs a deep, heartbroken sigh.

“You’ve made me seem like a deadbeat, like I abandoned her, George made it seem like I was a monster so she wouldn’t seek me out, and her mother never told her where the extra credits they got came from, but you, you’re aware of it…”

Harold’s eyes narrow as determined and cold.

“You hide the truth from her because you want her stuck in that cycle of abuse, you want a mandate to keep her under your thumb, because this circus is the little world where you have any authority.  The moment that authority slips away, you lose your control, you throw a tantrum, and start breaking your toys, like the man-child you are.  That’s what we saw when Ajax and Solace started to think for themselves.   You couldn’t control them anymore, so you broke them, like the toys you perceived them to be, and then you threatened to do the same to Michaela!”

Bile wells up in the back of Harold’s throat as the memory of Ring of Dreams floods back to his mind.

My daughter!  You implied that you would take her out with them!  Her safety is my last mission in life, to show her everything, every image her mother gave me of her!   Every note I wrote to her but was never delivered!  Show her that her father may never have been there physically, but his spirit was always around her, and always has returned to protect her from an abuser!  It’s funny, at the end of all of this, you’ll only have yourself to blame…”

Harold moves, getting in the face of Klaus Way, his voice charged with venom.

“You dragged me here, Klaus.  You had me kidnapped like a thief in the night because of the control you desire, and you think that you can control me like you do my daughter.  I will not be silenced, nor will I stand down.  I will break your cycle of abuse because it’s a father’s job to protect their daughter from abusive assholes like you.  This week it’s one shot, one kill, and if you wake up, it’ll dawn on you… Daddy’s home, so your reign of terror is over.
