“You’ve always been a broken man, haven’t you Foley?”
[The cold voice of Damien Solus sends chills up the rest of the Freak Show’s spines. Ajax the Adonis steps aside, and Solus emerges from behind him.]
“Ever since you were a young boy, the world has been working against you, has it not? Your own father abused you, treated you as if you’re some sort of freak compared to your brother. He wanted nothing to do with you.”
“Despite how hard you tried to make him happy.. how much you attempted to be on your best behavior to make him proud.. He never accepted you for who you were, did he?”
“And that left you a broken child.”
[Damien walks over to the two strands of rope and looks down at one.]
[It’s fraying at the ends. Pulled apart by the astounding strength of Ajax.]
“You’ve tried so hard to recapture your childhood. You’ve tried so hard to put your dark past behind you in exchange for bright colors and cheery puppets.”
“But in a world such as Arcadia, those efforts are fruitless.”
“An end was put to Foley’s Funhouse, and once again.. you were left broken.”
[Damien looks around at The Freak Show.]
“You may have given them hope, but I’ve always seen through to the broken man you’ve become.”
“Even now, you’ve been relieved of your family. You’ve been relieved of the past that haunted you so.. and yet you’re still broken.”
“Using your bond with Doom as a crutch to remain afloat.”
[Solus leans forward and picks up a piece of the rope. He holds it across one finger, allowing the frayed rope to drape over it limp.]
“At Vendetta, The Unnaturals break that bond.”
“We pull The Besties apart. What was once a strong bond becomes a weak point that can be exploited.”
“And when that bond is broken, so too are you, Felix.”
[Damien lowers his head. He’s wrapping the rope around his finger until it starts turning red.]
“I’m no stranger to what it means to be broken. I’ve been beaten and broken for my entire life.”
[Solus continues to wrap his finger so tightly that the nylon cuts him and blood begins to flow.]
“The difference between you and I is I’m able to embrace the pain.”
“I’m able to take all of the agony and use it to inflict pain to others.”
[Damien eyes the blood on his hand with a fascination as the rope slips to the ground.]
“When you’re at your weakest. When the strength of your bond is broken and you’re left with all the agony and despair of being alone.. I will be there. But not as a crutch.”
“I will be there to kick a dying dog as he’s down.”
[Solus lifts a foot and stomps on the rope that fell to the ground.]
“Sometimes, there’s relief in agony.”
“And at Vendetta, I will put you out of your misery.”
“Let me ease your pain, Felix.”
“Together, we can write the diary of a broken man.”
[Fade.]
