[Sunshine watches his own dull reflection, caught in the steel bars of the cage.]
I… I don’t know who I am any more.
I can’t seem to recall the exact moment I… lost myself. But it’s there.
That feeling.
That somehow the cheese slid right off my cracker.
[He laughs.]
Maybe it was never there to begin with.
[He looks up, beaming at both Savor and Captain Arcadia from across the cage.]
Look at us. What we’ve all been through. What we’ve lost. Is it any wonder that the sun has stopped shining in Arcadia?
Searching for the Zookeeper, yet we’re the ones locked in a cage like animals.
It’s a nice little twist of irony, don’t you think?
[He moves, slowly eyeballing Savor.]
What about you, Chef?
You’re always cooking up some scheme. Even this quest of ours to find the Zookeeper is merely leverage to you. Everything falls into your recipe to rule Arcadia from your kitchen.
But in here, you’re not ruling anything. I don’t see any pots or pans for you to cook with.
Do these bars get to you?
[Sunshine pauses.]
I suspect not. You’re a planner, always a step ahead. I’m sure you’ve got a scheme under your chef’s hat.
Your level head can get you out of many situations… But not this cage.
[Sunshine brings himself to Captain Arcadia.]
You know what I mean, ol’ buddy, ol’ pal.
The Zookeeper killed everyone you ever loved, you couldn’t save them. Doesn’t that just eat you up inside?
You lost it all.
To make matters worse, every lead you chase down has a nasty habit of ending up dead.
Mister Kleen.
Boswick.
Dead end after dead end. It’s like no matter how hard you try, you’re going to keep failing.
[Sunshine stops, looking Cap right in the eyes.]
No… You know who you are.
The Zookeper may have taken much from you, but he hasn’t taken your mind. You’re strong… right?
You know that if you keep hunting, you’ll get him eventually. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut or two.
[Sunshine taps his head with a smile that doesn’t meet his eyes.]
You’ve both kept yourself in check. You’ve stuck to your plans and kept moving forward where I have come crashing down to rock bottom.
I lost my Sunshine Club.
I was betrayed.
It’s enough to drive a guy up the wall.
[He speaks softly into the ear of Captain Arcadia.]
But does that make me crazy?
[Sunshine swoops to Savor. His voice carries more fervour now.]
Does that make me crazy?
[He turns, laughing. Wildly, he spins back around, his eyes bulging.]
Does that make me crazy?!
[His features soften, his voice falls.]
Possibly.
But when they open that cage door, all of the crazy that glimmers behind these eyes is going to get out.
And you’re standing in the way.
It’s going to hurt. A lot.
[He brings a finger to his lips.]
The Sunshine Club lies silent now, boys. I’m going to have to fill that silence with your screams for mercy instead.
It’s the only way to let the Sun shine again.
