Friendship

“I like to think that friendship is a bit like a house.”

“My mother used to say, with the right care and attention, that a good home will last forever.”

“To me? Friendship is just the same. It’s a place of support, a comfort that you can turn to even when the world is bleak.”

“But like a house, if you neglect it? It will crumble.”

“Lies, greed, and resentment infest the support beams like termites, spreading throughout the relationship and slowly chewing away at the foundation. A slow, insidious killer that if left unchecked could spread through the whole home.”

“Before you know it the flooring is dipping and the trust you imbued into your relationship is drawn into question.”

“Can you trust the person closest to you to have your back when the walls are closing in?”

“Could you even trust the roof over your head to not cave in as you sleep?”

“I don’t even have to ask this question to my opponents, though. Because anyone can see from the outside looking in that whatever friendship was ever existing between any of them is gone.”

“Rotted beyond repair.”

“Isn’t that right, Doom?”

“You’re the one who sits at the center of this decaying mess, aren’t you? A lone hermit sitting in the crumbling ruins of what were once his most important relationships. A man who looked upon two places he could call home, that he could call his ‘besties’… And decided to simply allow them to slowly die before his very eyes.”

“Foley? Nox? Your ceaseless pursuit of greatness and your own ambition has left both to fall to the wayside.”

“And now they’re caving in on top of you.”

“Nox saw you as competition, he saw you with nothing but raw unadulterated resentment and instead of addressing it and speaking to him like a man you walked away. You saw that derelict friendship and you tried to leave it behind.”

“Until the support beams snapped and his rage collapsed towards you in an avalanche of disdain.”

“And Foley? Hell, it’s almost like you tore that home apart with your own two hands. You saw a place that cared for you, that kept you comforted in your darkest moments… And you did everything in your power to let it die. You neglected and tore at Foley’s foundation until nothing but bitter remorse remained.”

“At Ascension when I stand across the ring from you I know that I won’t see a man with two friends at his side, Doom.”

“I’m going to see two derelict houses, two broken friendships in dire need of being demolished.”

“One thing my mom never taught me that I had to learn myself is when the homes begin to break, sometimes they’re beyond saving.”

“And when that happens, you need to tear them down.”

“So that’s exactly what I plan to do, Doom.”

“Piece by piece I’m going to dismantle you, dismantle Nox, and Foley too.”

“Nobody is above the Law.”

“And I am the Law.”
