How do you handle power when it’s levied against you unevenly? It can be difficult to deal with for sure, struggling against the bonds of something that seems overwhelming of course. Can one stop a force of nature, or just be blown aside like a leaf in the wind?
But all problems seem like that in the beginning. See, its not always just the ones that wield strange powers or those that physically tower over you. A problem looms over ya when you can’t quite figure it out, or understand it. So you gotta take it apart piece by piece, and look at what you’re founding.
Take a problem, say a leader gone mad with power. Sure, he’s scary. He’s got a weight that feels overwhelming, influence beyond that of just a simple man. But that power? It’s corrupted them. Made them arrogant, and with arrogance is blindness. They’ll see you as nothing more than a man, weak and not even worth the tango again to deal with. For what monster fears what it thinks is weaker than it?
And that’s where you get the advantage. You bait them slowly, make them think they’re in the narrative they set up before BAM! POW! KABLAM! And then they’re down on the mat, trying their damndest to figure out how they lost to what was in their head just a punk kid doing what he could to stand out against a legend.
With that comes the problem for someone like El Dragon being a legend. You have to have people remember you to become something grand. When you spend your time slaying everyone you ever knew, taking their lives from them and leaving them husks of who they were? Just erases everything you made.
Because then, the legend isn’t about how good or powerful you are, but how much of a monster you are. You’ve killed and taken what you thought was yours, forged yourself to become a god among men that will be listened to! Instead, you’ve just forged your fangs, sharpened your claws, and become the dragon you held in your name. There is no glory left for a lucha, only a trail of blood and broken bodies.
And when it comes to dragons, there’s always one answer. A knight in shining armor, with shield held aloft comes and deals with the beast that terrorizes the lands and people, bringing joy and safety to the whole of Arcadia. Who else would be able to repeal the breath of the fire breathing reptile from another age?
So bring your god like powers, come with the cockiness and bravado that a dragon has in their hearts. I’ll be here with my own steel, ready to meet you, beat you, and take your severed head back to the people. Because in the end, I won’t do it for glory, or fame, or fortune.
I’ll take you down so the people of Arcadia can sleep in peace without a dragon gnawing at their door.
