Protective Shade

The NightPromo, The Night

You ever cared for a flower before? My mother did. She had one on the windowsill of our old domicile in the Slums.

It requires a lot of love in order to have it become a beautiful marvel. She believed she was up to the task, however.

She had plenty of water and plant food on hand to ensure it had all the nutrients it needed to grow. The air, while not the greatest, was clean enough to nurture it too.

The only mistake she made was placing it in the windowsill at all.

At first, the sunlamps seemed to nourish the flower. It provided some much needed heat and light that helped the budding plant absorb the food and water it needed to grow.

However, it soon became too much for the little thing. The heat that once helped it digest the nutrients began to cook it inside its flowerpot. If it wasn’t moved soon, it would have ultimately perished before it even had a chance to bloom.

Noticing this, my mom quickly moved it from the windowsill to a more shaded area of our home. Before too long, it was able to heal from its predicament and managed to grow into a beautiful, mature flower.

I remember that flower because of you, Mr. Sunshine. You hide your true, more vile nature behind a facade of brightness.

Maybe you did care for the children at one point in time. Maybe you did nurture them and helped them grow into their full potential before this war. Now? You’re killing them with your so called kindness by attempting to keep them ignorant to the truth.

You feed them lies that Zeus would approve of about the outside of Arcadia. You try to paint Felix as a villain for telling the children to do what is moral and just instead of selfish and unjust.

You provide lessons like those and you’ll end up killing the children you claim you want to protect. Much like the sunlamps in Arcadia, you nurture as well as cook the little flowers you want to see grow and mature.

Me? I’m the shade. I might be a champion of darkness, but I provide protection from the misinformation and danger you dole out to the kids.

I’m someone that can block out the Sunshine when it gets too harsh. I’m someone that can protect them from the abrasive heat you give them. The budding flowers can’t grow with your bright facade. They can only grow with the kind warmth and food and water that only the Seekers can provide.

I’ll show the children that the darkness isn’t something to be afraid of. I’ll help them realize that too much Sunshine is hazardous to their health. Most importantly, I’ll show them that behind that bright smile you always wear is a monster that only wants to see them dead for abandoning him for a good natured man like Foley.

Darkness comes before the dawn… and I am the Night.
