Hunter

Lambs to the Slaughter? I’m not entirely unfamiliar with the concept in a way. I’ve seen it occur many different times as a hunter. Being surrounded by disdainful eyes.  Usually those eyes belong to one of two groups: the herbivores and the scavengers.

When left to their devices herbivores will naturally populate the world, overpopulate in fact and surround everyone. Drain resources and strip the Earth barren. But generally they mean no harm and infact they want what’s best for the world. And I think this sums up our wonderful seekers oh so well. They have grown so far in number and tend to usually avoid conflict if need be focusing on their own self preservation. Their frontward facing attitude is noble, but it leaves their backs open as all it takes is one knife between the shoulder blades to shake their foundation. And leave themselves open for total massacre.

Then you have your scavengers, they won’t act until a body is dead or close to death. They are content to wait forever for their opportunity to strike, even if it means they starve to death or if they have to eat their own kind. These are opportunistic cowards. Vultures who won’t leave unless they have their chance. But at the end of the day they feed last. Reminds me of a few people from the preservationists group. Who had their meal dying on the ground but because meat was scarce they ended up bickering and eating each other alive. Being their undoing for in the end food is scarce when you have to rely on scraps.

The lines between these two are so much clearer. One focuses on self preservation, and the other focuses on waiting for the self preserved to be at death’s door before they can eat. If the world were to continue at this rate well it would be nothing but an apocalypse. Mutually assured destruction.

Which is why a third exists the glue that is meant to hold the world together. The predator, the alpha. Or for what it means for the rest of you all. The hunter. Someone who actively looks the cull the herd one by one. Someone who looks to feast. Chasing away the scavengers while they take care of each other one by one. Bringing a balance to the world.

That is my spot in the world. I will stand strong as a hunter and feast upon the flesh presented before me. Become the fiber that holds the world together and stop any needless suffering. Lambs need to be slaughtered and only a hunter may do it.
