‘Don’t sit so close to the screen, or you’ll get square eyes.’
That’s what they used to tell little children. Maybe parents of old used to actually believe it. Either way, they feared television, the screen. Above all, they believed it would corrupt their precious wee tykes.
From all over Arcadia, children would turn on their screens and watch The Sunshine Club. They would laugh, they would learn… and over time, parents learned the truth.
That there’s nothing wrong with a little Sunshine in everyone’s lives. To turn on that screen and see a friend smiling back.
So they handed out screens to kids like candy. Because if a little Sunshine is good, more must be better. Parents eagerly watched as their angels connected to the wider world of Arcadia through those magic boxes, and marvelled at the friends they made.
But you know what, my little Sunbeams? Not everyone who sits behind that screen is a friend. Those parents were right to be afraid.
They just didn’t know that it wasn’t just square eyes they were supposed to be afraid of. They didn’t know that it was never actually the screen that was the problem. Not the figure smiling back from within the box that they should fear. It was the monster lurking behind the screen, the one pulling the strings. The true corrupting factor was one that the previous little Sunbeams would never have even seen.
The keyboard warrior that connects to that screen from an undisclosed location.
You are that corruption, Nero.
You’ve taken the joy of my world and ruined it for all of the children. In your own attempt to right wrongs and fight the injustices you see through your screen, you’ve done nothing but become part of the problem you fight.
Your world is one of user takes all, where anything goes if you know what keys to press. A world of dirty secrets and double edged swords.
Of handshakes shook so far into your darkweb that not even the sun can shine there.
Your world of the darkness behind the silver screen makes me feel… icky.
It’s a coward’s world you operate from Nero. You’re no true hero hiding behind your screen doing the dirty work of Seekers like Gemini, trying to uncover dirty laundry.
A coward’s world where kidnapping and threats are your currency, bought on the stolen money of Graves church. Under some guise of protecting Arcadia from his corruption.
He never corrupted Arcadia, Nero. You did that. You behind that screen. The Red Reboot Arcadia never asked for or needed.
Forget the Reboot, Sunbeams… we need to pull the plug.
You continue to corrupt young minds, with every key stroke. With every deal struck with the lines of Redgrave, the darkweb you weave becomes darker.
I am the Sunshine that illuminates the dark corners of Arcadia where cowards like you hide, my friend.
No more will you corrupt the minds of Arcadia’s children. No more will you turn their eyes square, not while the sun still shines.
