A Treatise To Humanity

EclipseAurora, Promo

Dear Mr. Sunshine, I hope this letter finds you well.

I wish to congratulate you on your ascension to the upper echelons of The Preservationists – you are an upstanding man of talent and conviction, and while some of your new colleagues are not particularly well-versed in handling or expressing sentiment, I assure you that both your timely intervention in the interest of justice and consequent acknowledgement of allegiance to the defenders of Arcadia is both welcome and appreciated by us all.

The old world is dead. It is regrettable fact, but fact nonetheless. We once had peace. We once had stability. We once had a home we could raise our children in, without fear or uncertainty, knowing that the future generation would be safe, on the path to shaping Arcadia’s destiny, to building it’s future. But this world did not simply ‘die’, it was murdered. The sanctity of this life that we all worked together to build was destroyed by The Uprising. The power-hungry, the ungrateful, the hate-filled… The joy we all felt filled them with ire, for they only valued smiles that they placed on others. All other happiness was an affront to their egos, to their god complexes, to the status they mistakenly believe they were owed.

That is why we fight, Mr. Sunshine. We fight for you. We fight for each other. We fight for the citizens of Arcadia – the men, the women – and most importantly – the children. I have been briefed upon the tragedy that befell Oliver and the rest of the Sunshine Club, and you have the heartfelt condolences of us all. There will be people who will tell you that those inexcusable, catastrophic losses were our fault. They will say this without a hint of irony when the smoking gun is still in their hands.

We do not know specifically who callously slaughtered those children, but culpability extends beyond that – it lays with El Mariachi Muerte, the traitor whose betrayal and dishonest dissemination of contextless half-truths sowed the seeds of this war. It lays with The Cades, the terrorist family who raised arms and mowed down the decent and the honest. It lays with the manipulator Felix Foley, who sees this conflict as a recruitment drive opportunity, to indoctrinate children to his skewed world view, even if it means ripping them away from your loving embrace.

You are a victim of all these men, but you are a warrior too. I would know – I found out the hard way a few months back, and I hold no grudge. And now, we need you to go to war. We will stand, brothers and sisters in arms against those who would rend asunder our reality, our livelihoods… And the destinies of our children. You have made the right choice, Mr. Sunshine, and even if those devils perch themselves on your shoulder and whisper poison into your ear, I know you can drown them out. You are strong enough. You are one of the few sane men in a world gone mad. And now, you have friends. No, family.

Yours sincerely,

Eclipse.
