I somehow doubt some of you have even been to the casino before. You see it requires a certain kind of individual with a certain amount of credits to even get through the door. Of course I have frequented the casino on several occasions, and only once did I have to get Ajax to dent the wall with the staff members’ heads. They certainly never stopped me after that, though I did notice a few looks…
But that is beside the point. If you’ve ever been inside of a casino, you’ll know there are many different kinds of things you can gamble away your hard earned credits on. Blackjack. Poker. Fruit machines. I like to think of all of these as some kind of profession. But being a part of OSW? That is clearly the roulette wheel.
And listen, everyone approaches the roulette wheel differently. Some people – the Captain Arcadias and the like – would spread bet. They’d put a few credits on red and a few on black, just to make sure they won at least a bit of something back. Limit the damage. You know the kind – probably wears a lifejacket to bed.
And then you have the Mr Sunshine way. Mr Sunshine definitely takes his whole stake and sticks it all in on red. That’s just his style. You see Mr Sunshine is someone who has his viewpoint and cannot see things any other way, and he doubles down and commits. The red represents his viewpoint in the world, and the black represents sadness, or anger, or hate – things Mr Sunshine refuses to acknowledge. That’s why he will always go all in on red.
The problem is that just because you don’t want to acknowledge they exist, sadness, anger and hate are all present in Arcadia. Ignoring them does not cause them to cease their tireless ravaging. Looking the other way does not stop them festering. Putting everything on red does not rule out that black could win. And when black wins, Mr Sunshine, people like you will lose it all. The darkness that you don’t want to believe is within you and within Arcadia will be too much, and will consume you.
“And what about you, Klaus?” I hear you cheering oh so sweetly. That’s pure and simple. I whip out my credits, slam them thud on the table, and I go all in too, on green. Why? Because I’m the only one crazy enough to do it – and I’m the only one lucky enough to win. If you’re going to take risks, take them with your full chest, Sunshine, not quietly and pretending everything is fine.
Sometimes you have to shoot yourself out of a cannon without a safety net. Sometimes you have to go all in on green.
That’s just the way life goes.
Welcome to the freak show, let us show you the way!
