Sunshine stands overlooking the busy Agora. People seem stuck in their business, bustling about without care.
“Kindness is like a boomerang. If you throw it out, it will come back to you.”
“This boomerang process is a chain reaction. Beginning as a single act inspires someone else. They then inspire another, and another until eventually, the chain reaction completes and your kind act is returned to you.”
He steps forward, mingling with the people.
“Look, Sunbeams. We can start this chain reaction right now.”
A man sits with his head in his hands, sobbing.
“This young man is sad because his mother is sick. Ol’ Mister Sunshine always says a warm hug can solve any problem.”
He catches the man’s attention, holding his arms open.
“Hi friend. Do you need a hug?”
The man pauses, but then obliges hesitantly. By the time the hug is finished, he wears a smile.
“See? Our simple hug has warmed the sad man’s heart. The chain reaction has begun.”
Sunshine points out across the Agora as the man moves to help an elderly lady.
“Kindness received, then gets passed on. Seemingly randomly, but it is not. There’s a flow to this kindness. It moves through the people as a wave of Sunshine. Eventually, it will circle back around to the one who started the chain.”
A small child, a poor beggar, approaches with a huge smile, happily eating an apple gifted to him. He walks up to Mister Sunshine and gives him a big hug.
“You see? The chain of kindness became a boomerang, from one simple act. Isn’t it beautiful?!”
Sunshine beams a giant smile.
“Last week, I started a chain reaction.”
“A simple act of loyalty towards Doom stopped him from being decimated by Six Feet Under. It was enough to show that we were stronger together. That wave caught on, and we finally saw the sun of selflessness shine out of Nox as a result. Redonkulous right?”
“We saw something special, Sunbeams. Kindness overtook loyalty. Four people stood together for what was right and a bond was shared between them.”
“It didn’t matter that none of us were on the same team, nor does it really matter that we each had our heads clobbered in only moments later. What mattered was that the light was finally able to shine for a brief, fleeting moment. OSW felt the chain reaction of Sunshine.”
He pauses, surveying the scene once more. The market now has a happy buzz about it.
“As Chain Reaction looms over us now, we will see the ripple effects of that one simple act.”
“Loyalties are tested, and new alliances formed. But the bonds created within my little trio… they’ve never been stronger.”
He tuts, shaking his head mournfully.
“If only Jasper Redgrave knew that, for his Sunshine stealing days are numbered, my friends.”
“No matter what gasses or electric shocks come my way, my light cannot be darkened, or put out. At Chain Reaction, the boomerang comes around…”
The smile returns to his lips.
“… and Arcadia will see just how bright the Sun Shines, friends.”
