Crayons

I love to draw. Don’t we all, my little Sunbeams?

To give the world a little glimpse of what lies within your own imagination. There’s nothing quite like opening up a fresh new box of crayons, is there?

All of the colours, freshly waiting to be chosen. Brand-spanking-new crayons that, so eager to taste paper.

But over time, friends, those crayons become blunted. Soon, you have to peel off that fresh paper wrapping so you can keep using them.

But what happens when you peel back that wrapper and find that the crayon is broken? Snapped in half or cracked?
Throw it away!
Your once fresh, lovely looking crayon now looks a little… different.

Our friend Eclipse is one of those types of crayons.

She was once that fresh-faced, shiny looking new crayon. Straight out of the box, bright-eyed and bushy tailed and ready to paint the world in her own special colour. Full of spark and imagination, she was the vibrant life of Arcadia.

Until she wasn’t any more.

Each time Gravedigger chased after her. Each denied request, it just wore her down more and more. With a wedding, she peeled back the paper that hid her true self. All that vibrant, bright exterior was hiding the truth.

That inside, She was no longer the Aurora that Arcadia had come to love. She had a new passion to chase. When we saw that wedding, broadcast over all of Arcadia, she revealed to us all just how broken she was inside.

Just how broken she still is. For what is broken cannot be mended.

All over Arcadia, my Sunbeams, people cry for the Aurora she was and beg for her to turn away from the man who broke her. They want her to leave the Preservationists and return to the adrenaline-chasing ways of old.

But she has a taste of that life now. Her new colour.

And if you look hard enough, my Sunbeams, you will see that it’s every bit as vibrant as she ever was. She’s just… different.
She’s fucking broken!
A smile…

But guess what, my little Sunbeams? Even a broken crayon still colours. A broken crayon can still make the most wonderful pictures.

Just like you, Sunbeams. Even when you feel tough, rough or like life has blunted you down. Even when you feel wobbly inside, cracked or broken into pieces. You still have so much colour to share with the world.

Even if, like Eclipse, you’ve lost your way and are fumbling around with a new man… a new way of thinking and a new outlook on life, you can still be the sunshine in somebody else’s day.
Or watch the world burn…
Even if, like Eclipse, you’ve been battered, broken and worn down by some seedy creep who proves that sometimes persistence wins over good looks and chivalry… you can be an ugly, broken crayon that still creates beauty.

You just have to believe!

So keep on drawing, keep on shining and remember… Broken crayons like Eclipse still colour, they just need to find a new way to let the sun shine through their brokenness.
