GOTCHA!
My good friend Nox over there was being ironic, wasn’t he? I’ll tell you why in a second.
First I want to talk to you about the circus. I think you’ll already understand that I love the circus, it’s this incredible pool of talent that works together each show to put on a spectacle, to amaze and entertain the old and the young, and to use their talents in the most effective and efficient way that they know how. It’s a slog, let me tell you, some days under the big top are harder on the body than something like Chain Reaction, but it is the teamwork that pulls it all together into the final, winning product.
And the circus is bigger than you would realise too. Whilst my freaks take centre stage, there are plenty of others that make the show possible. Stage hands, show runners, lighting technicians, clean up crew – the list is endless.
One of my favourite parts of the show is the acrobats, because they’re quite unlike anything else. In a show full of slapstick and freakishness, they are graceful and elegant. They do this incredible act where they swarm the floor near the end pulling off trick after trick and suddenly BAM. One of them falls from the ROOF!
…and is safely caught. PHEW.
But the beauty of that trick is just how out of the blue it is. The ladder up to the jump spot is mostly hidden aside from the last few feet, but that is why we deploy all the other acrobats on the floor, creating – YOU GUESSED IT – a distraction.
It’s beautiful. And it’s a crowd pleaser every time.
The funny thing is that myself and Mr. Gasmask are just like that elegant flock of acrobats. He talked about hating distractions and how the distraction that Mr. Sunshine and Aurora bring to OSW is simple-minded and one dimensional, but the truth is that a distraction is only as good as the person doing it and the reason behind it. Whilst Mr. Sunshine and Aurora are truly just distracting from the mundane with a little bit more mundane, look what WE can do. A distraction is one thing, but when you are good at it and you do it for a reason the distraction becomes a DIVERSION.
Nox is the flurry of activity on the floor, distracting you as I climb the ladder higher and higher. ALL THE WAY INTO THE RAFTERS. He’s so good at it that you don’t see me get into position. Diverting all that attention into himself.
Before you know it, I will appear out of nowhere, putting on that spectable. Amazing and entertaining that OSW crowd, using my talent in the most effective and efficient way. Our teamwork will pull us together into that final, winning product.
And you didn’t even see it coming. The purest of ‘gotcha’s!
Welcome to the freak show, let us show you the Way!
