Ascension #391

PreviousPage 2 of 2

TOP THREE MOMENTS:

1.  Do You Know? For all the questions and wonders if being Zeus's son and everything he's gone through over these past few years may be beginning to change Jackson, this seg may have been an indicator that statement may be true, even slightly so. Nero rightfully calling Cade on the bullshit of turning a blind eye to Redgrave's depravity was great and that 'becoming exactly who he wants you to be' line being so cutting and multifacted at the same time was just the perfect punctuation there.

2. Family Drama. Oh but I do love a good mystery and now not only do we have a possible Ares family member running around if I'm reading the subtext right but whoever they are, they're not meant to be here. Very intrigued to see who this ends up being and how it affects the remaining Pantheon.

3. Deaths Gift I and II. I could not seperate these two, almost putting them as 2 and 3 just for how great the writing and how emotional and impactful this felt. Going through Muerte's past, how much being Death seemingly has affected him and how he feels like he's failed Vida, all capped off with some chilling final words to El Mariachi Grande. Amazing pair of segments and fuck if this match isn't going to rock so hard.

BURNING QUESTIONS:

  • Why does Tombstone need to reap Slade's soul so badly?
  • Who has this golden ticket and how are they related to Ares?
  • Will Ring King be Muerte's final song or will he somehow be inspired to deliver an encore?
  • Who will be this years Ring King?

MY FAVOURITE PROMO OF THE WEEK:

Going to give this as a shout out to Damo here. Pulled out a damn great promo that rightfully kicked my ass and got himself into the Ring King Semi-Finals. Massively proud and definetly rooting for ya buddy.

HAVE YOUR SAY:

Man is James so totally and utter fucked up. Not only has he lost all of his hope and faith in anyone, but he can't even lose himself into the anger anymore. Still gotta be that hero somehow, even if it does mean murder. I am assuming that it was Michaela he couldn't get out of his head and given the state she's in now because of him, he best get to the heroing and put down that Ringmaster fast.

TOP THREE MOMENTS:

1. Not Left to Fate will take the top spot. We get to see Tombstone enter all business mode again, and oh boy, do I feel bad for Slade and what's coming to him. He's evaded death for long enough in the Ferryman's eyes, and I don't know if he's truly prepared for how determined the former Ezra can be when he has to get his man. Will Slade continue to evade death? Or will his eternal rest finally come for him and make him accept peace?

2. For Old Time's Sake 2 takes this placement. I love the defiance shown by Cade here. Being offered to kill a man who attempted to kill his father and a man that faked his death in order to get back at the man he thought tried to kill him, only to refuse, was incredible. Although, it does put both Nox and Doom in a peculiar spot. What will happen to them post Ring King? Is Ares going to take matters into his own hands and kill them both after the match? Or will death be seen as a cruel mercy for what's to come?

3. Death's Gift 1 and 2 take joint custody here. Damn, these two segments hit like a truck. EMM recognizes the true problem behind the Mariachi now that Dr. Death is out of the equation, and it's the man he looked up to all those years ago. Having to be forced to put down your mentor ain't a placement I like seeing Muerte be in. The segment also feels quite final, as if we're going to lose one or both of the Mariachi as we know them at Ring King. While I hope that isn't the case, I watch on with morbid fascination regardless.

BURNING QUESTIONS:

What name was on the Golden Ticket that wasn't supposed to be? How will Ares deal with them and how are they related to the God of War? Are they truly family like he said they were?

Where did Klaus Way lock Michaela? Is she somewhere that we've seen before, but don't know everything about? Or is it a completely new area that we haven't seen before? In either case, will either Destructo or Attano be able to find her?

MY FAVOURITE PROMO OF THE WEEK:

Too Late for Sorry takes the spot for me. This was a powerful promo that acted as a nice callback to the feud he had with Klaus not too long ago. The comparisons and contractions made between him and the Ringmaster were spot on and there was venom behind the words that felt personal. Loved this piece, man. I'm scared to see what you'll bring at Ring King if you can keep this momentum going, Bryno!

HAVE YOUR SAY:

Night: It's about time Gemini was able to stand up for herself and get the crowd back on her side. Night might've swayed them back at Ring of Dreams, but the Rogue was able to put her foot down and throw down the gauntlet for both of him and Harold. I do like how the segment started with Night confronting Nobody for attempting to side with Gemini last week with a knife to the throat. Fun little callback to the first week of the feud when he had one drawn on Gemini. Nervous as fuck for Ring King and the caliber of opponents I'll be facing both in and out of the tourney. Hopefully I'll be able to bring it.

TOP THREE MOMENTS:

1. I'm going to put Death's Gift I/II here because it's a wonderful insight onto El Mariachi's side of things, a reminder that he's tried to take the poison of death for so long into his hands that he's not even sure how he can rebuild it when even the leader itself has become a killer in a mask. The longing, the pain, the soul of all of it has just been an absolute delight to read, making this the feud that I'm marking the most out for in the long run.

2. Smile for the Camera took this one for me, because Mr. Sunshine is going hella dark and twisted to get back what's rightfully his after so long. The pastice was the straw, the twisted reality of what he wanted has finally made him snap and I can't wait to see how that plays out. It's a bit twisted, a bit demented, and a good time in between.

3. Redemption? was a third mark, seeing a culmination of Harold's attempts to understand what was going on, The Night's schemes, and Gemini coming out to stop it with a three way match for both to earn what they seek is just a bloody brilliant piece. It's given me a fire for this feud that I was admittedly not too attached to at the time, but now I'm revved up for this to come to the top.

BURNING QUESTIONS:

  • Who's got a golden ticket that's not supposed to be here?
  • Will Cade's actions threaten his life beyond his new protection, or is this part of the plan on Redgrave's part?
  • Has the wolf returned in Ayame?

MY FAVOURITE PROMO OF THE WEEK:

Doom's promo was such a fun read not gonna lie. I've missed seeing them, and it's getting me fired up to work on my own again!

HAVE YOUR SAY: Well Cap ol buddy ol pal, you got what you gave in equal measure. Absolutely loved the payback he got, poor bud, and I can't wait to see how it all plays out.

TOP THREE MOMENTS:

  1. Something More & Nothing More – And that’s how you push someone to murder folks.  God, to see in essentially real-time the seed, morph into the thought, and then to what may soon be the action of Murder.  Just wow, and you can see Destructo’s logic and feel his motive.  Many have killed for love, and some have endured for it.  I get the feeling our Destruto’s going to need to do that here and endure because at the end of the day, love hurts.  Then to be hit by Klaus’s side of everything in this, and just the sick fucking bastard.  “It’s not a matter of what you did, it is what you could do.”  Like he’s preparing to punish Michaela for what she didn’t do.  Just repulsed me in that moment.  Then the fucking end to his garbage, “Daddy sure isn’t saving you anytime soon.”  Brilliant way to keep the idea of Harold kicking around in the back of everyone’s head in this story, but just what a fucking scum-fuck Klaus feels like.  The man who grew to be a sadist.
  2. Smile for the Camera – Just by God, are we going a Joaquin Phoenix, Joker style thing with Sunshine here, the man pushed too far.  His one little slice of the world turned into something tawdry, untoward, uncaring, and corporate.  Having to swallow it all until he finally snaps.  I love the little details, like the mention of the “canned applause” for someone who we know is used to being on a live set.  I would love to hear more directly from Sunshine on how this has eaten him up, to get the thoughts he’s kept so silent on until this moment, it would be deliciously compelling.
  3. All the Power – Holy Shit, I love how all the previous segments built to this.  Redgrave needling and poking his opponents, while Jackson was made to feel complicit in his partner’s actions.  Then, at the end of the day, it was Redgrave who reminded Jackson of everything he was with that one toe over the line and mentioning hurting Lucien’s Family like Redgrave has done so many of Cade’s APD brothers.  That was the moment Cade could take no more; he couldn’t be tacitly complicit in Jasper’s bullshit any further and needed to take action with a boot to the fucking head.  It was such a wonderful crescendo in this story that runs through the show and tied in so well to the final segment where Jackson let’s Doom and Nox live because he couldn’t become a killer it was just wonderful.

BURNING QUESTIONS:

Who’s the name that shouldn’t have gotten a Golden Ticket?

Will Cade and Redgrave survive as Champions?

Will EMM be able to put himself back on the right track?

Why is Doom being lumped in with Nox’s actions for the Pantheon, I thought Doom was one of Nox’s intended targets?

Who will be Ring King?

How did Nox and Doom wind up in that room?

MY FAVOURITE PROMO OF THE WEEK:

I didn’t get a chance to do a lot of reading this week as I have been burning the candle at both ends.  I am sorry I don’t a have a favorite Promo this week.

HAVE YOUR SAY:

Harold: I wanted to put this up on my favorite moments of the night, but held off until here.  Harold getting a win this week against Klaus felt like watching him win the World Championship again.  Just the story there and the drama between Michaela, Klaus, and Harold, not to mention what’s going on right now with Michaela, Destructo, and Klaus.  Again, loved that story beat earlier in the night where Klaus mentioned Harold in passing, it felt like foreshadowing to this match.  Then the whole thing with Night, Gemini, and Harold, the story of second chances, is ramping up to its conclusion.  Also, a side note on the character work for the match, the amount of punishment Harold was willing to take to get the victory over Way was just a chef’s kiss.

Nox: I loved how Scott Sterling had to pause before telling Foley and Savor, Nox was added to the match, and it would be a Fatal Four-Way at the beginning of the night.  Then, at the end of the night, Doom is told by Ares that it’s going to be a Fatal Four-Way for his title with Savor, Foley, and Nox.  It was a great way to sandwich the show.  Also, I cannot tell you what an honor it is every time one of my characters is announced for a Main Event or a title match.  I am so proud to be part of OSW, and I talk about this place all the time in my daily life.  Fantasy Wrestling before OSW was always kind of a hidden part of my life, now I have a shirt with one of my characters on it, and I am so proud to be part of a place with some of the best writers I’ve ever met, and part of a community that is always here.
