Ascension #393

TOP THREE MOMENTS:

1.    Slowly and Painfully. A great followup to the cliffhanger between these two last week, Jasper absolutely revelling in his "perfect" subject here while the Ferryman believes it's only temporary and then the other shoe drops. The sigil idea of trapping the Reaper is a brilliant one and the curiosity of who exactly taught Jasper that or how he knows it is very intriguing. Is it just something he learnt along the way, maybe from the likes of Gravedigger or is it something more? Is Redgrave working with Hades? Is he actually Hades? Amazing scene and I am super intrigued to see where this goes next.

2. Seek No More. Both parts as a whole were great and although the ending (and many endings alike) I'll speak on in #3, the test here by Ares might seem cruel and brutal at first glance but an absolute brilliant one to show exactly what Zeus needs to be. That you can't be all powerful and still play hero without consequences and it is curious to see what choice Cade would've made before he was kidnapped be it Death or Slavery.

3. The Masked Figures. These bastards were all over the show, attacking and kidnapping damn near everyone from Attano to Gemini to Caido, it seems at first it may well be a setup to Carnevil but the intriguing thing is, it doesn't seem that it's Klaus's doing. Does this mean someone else is going to be behind Carnevil? Who knows but as seemingly a big setup to something huge, I am psyched to see what exactly is happening and who is behind these mass attacks

BURNING QUESTIONS:

  • How did Redgrave learn of the sigil?
  • Did Gemini destroy the right tape or was that a red herring she'll regret?
  • Who killed Boswick or is he actually dead at all and this is another plan of the ACA's head?
  • What choice was Jackson about to make?

MY FAVOURITE PROMO OF THE WEEK:

Terrible couple weeks unfortunately, didn't get to read much at all but I'll make up for that this week.

HAVE YOUR SAY:

So at face value this seems to be James still spinning the wheels of anger here. Despite the appreciation for Felix's help, he still refuses to trust and rely on anyone, still stuck on getting revenge by himself. And of course, Nox is watching every bit of this, loving the web he's spun to trap his favorite prey...But I think this might be a huge red herring.

I may be totally wrong here and Destructo is running right into his own doom but I can't shake this feeling it's not just the tinest bit fabricated. James knows Nox, he absolutely would know he's monitoring or watching him and although yes, he'd be furious and still not thinking clearly, what if he's playing it up to 11? Sucker Nox in, make him think Destructo is helpless and alone and BAM Pool Boys return to stomp that fuckers head in.

Again, maybe completely off the mark but this feels like Nox is walking into the trap this time and I'm super intrigued to see if I'm right or completely off the mark and Destructo needs some sense slapped into him by the few people he has left.

TOP THREE MOMENTS

1. Watchers: This made Graves feel like the centre of everything. His booming voice demanded answers, and you could feel the weight behind it. The Watcher’s arrival added an eerie, mysterious vibe, while Nero’s anger gave the scene tension that was ready to boil over. When the smoke hit and the masked figures dragged Nero off, it felt chaotic and unpredictable like a genuine shock moment. What sealed it for me was Graves at the end. He didn’t look weak; instead, he doubled down, took control, and made that last line feel like a promise of judgment. Super badass.

2. Open Heaven: This was real storytelling, not just a fight. Graves started out commanding the room, preaching like a prophet, until Caído showed up with Muerte’s guitar and flipped the script, stealing the spotlight. The wild, messy brawl that followed felt like control slipping away, and then the masked men dragging Caído off was such a sharp twist nobody saw coming. By the end, Graves was bloodied but still in command, dragging Muerte with him to get what he needed. It had layers of power, rebellion, and chaos yet Graves pulled it all back into his hands.

3. Slowly & Painfully: This was straight-up horror movie vibes. The swinging lantern, the creepy paintings, and Tombstone chained up set a chilling tone from the start. Jasper flipping Tombstone’s immortality into an opportunity for endless torture made him scarier than someone who just wanted to kill. The blood sigil reveal added a supernatural twist, showing Jasper wasn’t just a psycho but someone with dark knowledge. His dialogue was creepy in the best way playful but menacing, like he was enjoying every second. And that ending, zooming in on Tombstone’s face as the scalpel cut in before fading to black, left a brutal image burned into your head.

BURNING QUESTIONS

Where is everyone going?

Who is behind the abductions?

How did Jasper learn the blood sigil that bound Tombstone?

What does Caido mean by “Rose sends her regards”

MY FAVOURITE PROMO OF THE WEEK

Beauty by Nero. You killed it, sir an awesome read.

I’m an idiot wrote out my feedback, thought I posted it, then passed out. Only now do I see it wasn’t on the forum. Kids, don’t do drugs.

Super pumped to see what happens next with Nero and Graves as a team I actually love the direction it’s heading.

This show had Graves looking super strong, like a real force. Thank you for the writing an amazing show once again!
