Four Redwoods

“A redwood can stand so tall but it’s the rot from the inside that causes it to fall”

“As I stand alone with all of you. I see nothing but rot. I used to look up and above myself seeing your own heroic actions proud to stand by them. Now I see nothing but rot. People that are so self obsessed with their own fears and insecurities that they cannot stand tall anymore.”

“Where should I even begin, Harold Attano? Someone who wishes to speak with authority but every time he makes something resembling a decisive action all it does is make his back into a comfortable place to place a knife? Because he is starved for anywhere to place his roots.”

“Or should I talk about our wonderful Captain Arcadia who was all too happy to lecture me when it was advantageous for him. But now that he is running for his life. Where are the lessons? Where are the letters hero? Or did you finally realize that confronting something bigger than you has farther reaching consequences. That talking big might have some difference than walking the walk when you see something that is an existential threat in your path. And you suddenly have nothing to say. You feel to the earth with the entire world watching. But yet there is no sound.”

“And then we land on the current champion Destructo. You took what was mine and used it to start your own crusade. But everyone watched from afar as you faltered. As you crumbled beneath the weight of your own crushing expectations. No you weren’t a tree that died because of starvation, nor a tree that fell because of an outside force. You were a tree that fell on its own from the rot that grew from the inside. A necessary fall to save everyone else around you and the parasites that grew within.”

“A fourth tree stands in this forest. I stand tall. Every promise I have made I have delivered on. Every one who has crossed me and stood in my way I have dismantled. It took patience but nature works out nothing but patience. As the three trees around me fell. I reached up and embraced the sunlight. My enemies, the demons that I have sworn to fight have been eradicated from this plane.”

“Through nature it is natural for that which has fallen to feed into the health of the future. Such is the natural cycle. Before me stand three trees which have proven that they have only fallen and it is time they give their energy and allow the cycle of rebirth to continue.”

“Such is the way of Nature’s reclamation.”
