Who are we on this chessboard we call life?
Every single individual in this world craves the title of king. It is synonymous with power and glory. Every other piece on its side of the board is bound to protect it while it is the focus of every piece on the other side.
Simultaneously secure and in dire peril, the king is the most important piece on the board and person in this world.
None of us in this match are lucky enough to even have a shot at this now. We’re all in this for the same reason, we are on the outside looking in at the people who could become Ring King instead of us. Doom should feel lucky keeping the throne warm for the eventual winner. The rest of us are stuck with the unfortunate roles of simply filling the board.
So what pieces will you be?
Will you be a rook? Can you be that steadfast tower who will properly guard the castle walls and the king within? Or are you more likely to stay in the corner and watch the massacre? Either way of playing makes you a rook but if you’re not moving, you simply end up being a domino piece for the inevitable downfall of your king.
I’ve seen the way our rook moves, Caido will go around the world protecting those who matter to him. He cares and will put himself in danger for anyone. Compare that to your rook, you have Mister Sunshine who will stay in his corner and let pawn after pawn perish to protect himself. Once they’re gone, he’s bound to fall and your temporary king in Doom will be stuck making slow move after slow move until his inevitable demise.
What about a knight? Which kind will you be? Will you be the kind that makes fancy moves just to make fancy moves and end up making yourself fall into a trap? That has been your whole style and story since I’ve encountered you Muerte. I choose the one who gets close enough and shifts just enough to kill and survive. Poison then jumps out of the way, the Nox way. If you flip just to flip, Meurte, you’ll eventually flip out and fall off the horse.
I already have the better pieces while you’re still focusing on simple survival Doom and we haven’t even gotten to yours truly. While everyone else is stuck to their roles and limited moveset, this queen can move freely wherever she wants. I can do everything you all can do but simply better. In chess and in life, a king is always better with a queen and Doom, you’re alone in both.
When Sunshine’s pawns fall, when Sunshine and his faulty tower crumbles, when Muerte flips into disaster, you’ll realize how truly alone you are. The dragon will burn your structures, Nox will poison your allies, and I will deal the final blow.
This queen has made her gambit, all that’s left is for the pieces to fall.
Checkmate.
