Staring Back At Me

The NightPromo, The Night

“What do you see when you look in the mirror? What kind of person is staring back at you?”

“When I stare at my reflection, I see a man that had lost everyone and everything he cared for in a matter of moments.”

“I see someone that’s trying and failing to avenge everyone that died under his watch after making an oath to do so.”

“I see a failure of a hero that aligned with the wrong people, including the killer of those they’re attempting to avenge, in order to bring someone innocent of that crime to justice.”

“When I look in the mirror, I see Captain Arcadia staring back at me.”

“Much like the Captain lost his friends to the Zookeeper’s machinations and the ACA’s attempts at censorship, I lost my mother and everyone I knew at the Red Light District explosion.”

“Much like Arcadia, I’ve been misled by people I was supposed to trust regarding who the true culprit was while receiving more help from the formerly accused than those on my side.”

“Much like him, I’ve repeatedly failed to prove that I’m worthy of avenging those that perished after losing to people I should have triumphed over easily as king.”

“However, unlike the superhero, I don’t run around in a costume pretending to be someone I’m not. I don’t try to convince Arcadians that I’m the best they’ve got when I get my ass kicked in the middle of that ring.”

“How delusional does he have to be in order to believe he can fight for all of us when failure follows him around like a plague? How can he call himself a superhero when there’s absolutely nothing super about him?”

“I’ll give him credit for one thing, though. His never say die attitude is something to be admired, even if it’s to his detriment.”

“It reminds me of my persistence to bring Gemini to justice. No matter how many times I fall, I get right back up regardless if the losses start to feel overwhelming.”

“Even then, I know better than to act like hot shit. I know better than to go toe to toe against Sunshine and his four goons all by myself and fully believe he’s going to win.”

“While I look in the mirror and see a failure of a hero staring back, the Captain looks in that same mirror and sees someone far more capable than he really is.”

“That’s his main problem. His ego doesn’t allow him to comprehend the reality of the situation he finds himself in more often than not.”

“I have a firm grip on what’s real and what’s not.”

“The reality of the situation is that, despite failing to prove myself as of late, I’m still the Night.”

“I’m still capable of turning off the lights of a delusional man that can’t accept that nobody wants him to be his hero.”

“You, however, are just another soul that will be left in eternal darkness by the end of our fight.”
