The smiling face of Mister Sunshine fills the screen.
“What defines us is not that we fall, but how we get back up afterwards.”
“We all fall down, Sunbeams. It’s natural that the path of life takes some twisting and winding turns sometimes.”
Sunshine laughs joyfully as he spots a group of children holding hands and dancing in a circle.
‘Ring around the rosie… Pockets full of posies’
Sunshine smiles charmingly as the children continue to dance behind him.
“We all have moments where life is going well. When our hearts are full and ready to shine. But sometimes, life is hard. We find our smile has been replaced with a frown that stops our light from shining, and angry people make bad choices. They lie, they cheat and they hurt others.”
“When life gets tough and knocks us down, we have three choices. You can stay down and complain, you can get angry and pull others down with you, or you can find your shine again.”
The children still dance in their circle, we catch another line of their rhyme.
‘Ashes, Ashes…’
“Friends, I’ve tried to shine my light to guide the way of Mister Way’s circus, and what did I get for my troubles?”
“I got cheated, beaten and tricked. It’s not their fault though, they’re just angry people because Mister Klaus stole their sunshine, and won’t give it back. They think he’s the one to guide their way, poor friends. He calls them freaks, Unnaturals, and bosses them ‘round until they believe his lies.”
“But true friends don’t treat you like that, Sunbeams. Angry men like Mister Klaus only make other people angry too.”
“Aurora knows how that feels. Look at how her hero treated her. All she wanted was to meet her favourite musician, but he was mean to her and stuck her head inside a drum!”
“What happened when she got angry? She lost her cool, and beat him senseless. That’s not very nice!”
“Others though, bad men like Hatchet, can’t help but smile when they make others feel sad. Poor Mister Hatchet doesn’t see that he can’t make his own sunshine by stealing others.”
“Because it might make you feel all powerful and tingly for a while, but that will never last. Sooner or later, you’re just going to feel like a sad clown again.”
The children, dancing in their circle all fall to the ground as they get to the final line of the song.
‘We all fall down!’
Mister Sunshine laughs and claps.
“So what do we do when life knocks us down, Sunbeams? What does Mister Sunshine always say?”
“You pick yourself up, dust yourself off and try again.”
“I can show you how. When you fall, Sunbeams, Mister Sunshine will be here to pick you back up. If only you would believe, that with just a little Sunshine we could all be free.”
“Look at all the sad people around that have lost their shine. You don’t have to fall any more, Sunbeams, for I will always light the way. Just smile, and let the Sun shine.”
