Welcome Adventurer!
You are in a large room with a prominent doorway leading to a down staircase. In the center of the room sits a large, white marble pedestal. Sitting on the pedestal is a torch that burns with invisible flame.
> take torch
Taken.
The flame of the torch cannot be seen, only its heat may be felt.
> south
The Altar
This is the south end of a large temple. In front of you is what appears to be an altar with an iron poker laid on it. On the two ends of the altar are burning vats of molten liquid.
On the altar is a large black book, open to page 569.
> take poker
You pick up the poker. As you do, three figures approach.
One, a boy, dressed in adventuring gear. He walks with the confidence of a hero, but speaks with the wavering voice of a scared child.
Second, a woman dressed in fashionable clothes unsuited for adventuring.
The third wears a metal mask, which he seemingly does not want to get too close to the melting heat of the vats.
> investigate people
They are searching, but it is not the altar they seek. They search for the very thing you do, the golden ticket. But all you have found is an altar, and a book.
> read book
Each word of the prayer reverberates through the hall in a deafening confusion.
“Those that see are blind, and those that choose blindness will see. Only the worthy may wield the power of the third Eye.”
> inspect Boy’s worthiness
The Boy searches for answers, yet all he finds is questions. He is afraid but finds no comfort in his father’s presence. He is unworthy, for he is blinded by his own failures.
> inspect Woman’s worthiness
Many see her as worthy of following, but she sees them all as expendable. She cannot be trusted, nor is she worthy of claiming the golden ticket. She will never find what she looks for until her score is settled.
> inspect Masked Man’s worthiness
He is one of vast knowledge and unrelenting power. Though he has forged friendships with the most unlikely sources, his unworthiness is of his own creation. For he seeks his own power, and will never relinquish that in the name of another.
> ponder
You need not ponder. You know what must be done, for you alone are the Chosen One.
> place poker in vat
The iron poker reddens with the heat from the molten liquid.
> blind self
“Those that see are blind, and those that choose blindness will see.”
As the burning hot metal touches your eye, you experience an indescribable pain. The altar reverberates with your screams of agony.
You no longer see. You are blind.
But suddenly, the flame of the torch becomes visible to you, guiding your path.
You see the altar, and above it the golden ticket. Hanging invisibly to the unworthy. But you can see it as clear as daylight, right in front of you.
Now, Adventurer, step up and claim your prize.
