DIARY ENTRY FOUR – FOLEY’S LOG.
Dear Diary,
I never thought I would feel so angry. But the look on my mom’s face… it drew from a well deep within me, an anger that I’ve never felt before.
I’ve watched my brother be murdered before my very eyes.
I’ve had a monster hunt me like I’m an animal.
But the look on my moms face… the torment… the suffering… I just can’t stop this raging inferno inside myself.
I’m red hot.
I’m a fire and I’m going to burn, burn, burn.
[Felix Foley stands over a trash can that is full of paper, trash and other incendiary items. He stands, his eyes focused on it.]
[He pulls out a set of matches, takes one from the packet and strikes it, tossing it into the trash can.]
[The inferno begins quickly.]
“You’re a roaring inferno, aren’t you?”
[Foley’s eyes reflect the flames.]
“I can relate. My mom is everything to me, too. When I saw the hurt and terror on her face, I felt something deep inside me snap. It was like my soul was kindling and someone had struck a match.”
[Whoosh.]
“And before you know it, I was on fire.”
[The flames flicker in his eyes.]
“The flames burnt within, licking and lapping up every inch of my soul. It spread wildly, through my body, into my heart and into my mind. It tore down every barrier of common sense, every wall that I tried to construct in order to stop it. It became an inferno. I couldn’t put it out… I still can’t.”
[Felix turns away from the flames, ashamed.]
“Our connection to our parents is unique. I get it. When Tombstone Chokeslammed your father, it lit a match and set a fire within you. When he killed my brother and visited my mother, it did the same to me. We’ve both had fires lit within us due to the actions of others and that’s a dangerous place to be, isn’t it?”
[Felix grimaces]
“You and I, Jackson, we’re a tale of fire.”
“We’re two towering infernos. Our parents have been hurt and in turn, we rage until the fire either burns out or destroys us. That’s what happens, Jack. If we don’t find a way to put these fires within out, we’ll destroy ourselves. That won’t help our parents; it won’t help those we love.”
[Doom suddenly appears with a bucket and pours it on the inferno, watching as the smoke rises but the fire is doused and put out.]
[Felix smiles at him. He nods back.]
“The difference between you and I at Casino Chaos is that I have someone willing to put my fire out. I have my own song of fire and ice. You’ve got one too, only your ice doesn’t care enough to put you out. He doesn’t care enough about anyone but himself. Trust us, we know better than anyone else.”
[They both nod.]
“And with my inferno put out… that just leaves you to self-destruct and burn down before our very eyes.”
