[Doom sits in a pitch black room, the glow from his outfit unusually faded. There’s suddenly a flicker, revealing a candle wick, set alight.]
“There’s much ado about light, is there not?”
[He puts the candle on the table.]
“Light represents inspiration. It represents courage and endeavour. It represents a pathway through the darkness – a fight against the darkness that evil wholly represents. When treading a path through the pitches of blacks, even the smallest light can help lead the way.”
[Doom leans in.]
“Light is a steely determination to persevere, despite the odds, despite the outcome, despite logical reasoning and understanding. For as long as the flame flickers, a person will continue being daring and dangerous, protected by the light.
There’s a light within you, isn’t there Aurora?”
[The camera closes in on Doom’s masked face.]
“You’ve sheltered and protected it for such a long time. It gives you that indomitable fighting spirit that very few seem to have. It’s the reason why you persevere, come what may. It’s the reason why you fought tooth and nail to try and overcome Tombstone, when many in your position would’ve run for the hills.
It’s the reason why you’ve challenged Jasper Redgrave in a fight that when all is said and done, you cannot win. That light encourages you into darkness, helping you to believe that every step you take is guided by it.”
[He scoffs.]
“And it’ll guide you once again into that darkness next week, in hopes of leading you to the crowning glory that is Ring King. But this little light of yours, Aurora, its dangerous. It leads you up high mountains, across tight ropes and into the theatre of nightmarish encounters. In every thrill seeking ride you take, it’s there telling you that you’ll be okay, that you can do this, that there’s nothing to truly be afraid of.
But what happens when that light is snuffed out?”
[Doom blows on the candle, extinguishing the light.]
[Darkness envelopes the entire room.]
“What happens when there’s no guidance in the dark? What happens when you can’t see what’s in front of you?
Let’s find out.”
[Doom’s voice becomes more villainous.]
“Next week, I’m going to snuff out that light of yours, little girl. I’m going to take away the façade of safety and thrust you into the darkness, where there is no escape and there is no guidance leading the way.
There won’t be any inspiration, no courage or endeavor. There will just be pain, punishment and defeat.
We’ll see how you fare then, when you’re forced to kneel before Doom.”
[Cut.]
