Scientific Method

NoxNox, Promo

The scientific method is something I swear by.  It is something tried and true.  You ask a question, you do your background research, construct a hypothesis, you test your hypothesis with an experiment…repeatedly, and then report your findings.

The science of Arcadia is something that bends the mind to credulity.  We have people cast into their graves one day and the next their back amongst the breathing.  It’s enough to make an educated man mad.  How is that even possible?  How do you still live?  How do you still draw a breath?  How does that which was once dead knit itself back together upon this mortal coil?

Calypso, how are you and Tombstone back amongst the living?  You are buried, ferried to whatever afterlife a believer in whatever bayou juju gets.  Then… he pulls himself back from the abyss and he brings you back for the ride.  Is vengeance that powerful of a motivator that it will drag you back from the grave?  But Mon Cheri, you’re going to allow me to research what I have always wanted to…

I have a bunch of questions about all of this.  Can anyone come back?  But the big one is, can the already dead bleed?  Seriously, does your heart still beat?  Do your lungs still work?  Why are you here among us once more?

With this battery of questions, I shall do something that I so thoroughly enjoy doing.  I will start with my expectations and then work my way backward until I achieve the result that I am looking for because in my heart of hearts, I know you still bleed, and this week I will prove it.  I know your heart still beats.  And I will prove that your lungs still work because all you’ll need to do is breathe it in and you’ll succumb to my every experiment, my every machination.  I will find the point where living ends and dead begins and vice versa.  Just because you’re part of the Already Dead doesn’t preclude you from the laws of the living and I will be the man that proves you’re still subject to the same rules as everyone else.  That even though you may be able to bend the veil of the death you’ll still fall to the same constraints of this world.

I will prove to the whole of Arcadia that my science is far more powerful than any magic you can cook up.  You can manipulate those around you into believing that you can cast spells and twist the fabric of reality to your will.  Because you may be a Blackmagic woman, a voodoo queen, whatever you want to call yourself, it is nothing but bayou mud in the face of The Chemist.  Because in the end, everything dies, even if you come back.  Because in the world of Arcadia, science rules, and in the land of the sciences… I am king.
