Smokescreen

In Nox, Promo by Nox

People enjoy sitting behind their little smokescreens their personalities morphing into fit the facade that they put before you.  You have people who believe they wield power just because the person the stand next to is capable of snapping necks like they snap their fingers.  They put ups smokescreen of false confidence and unearned authority trading on the mystique of others while they’re no more than a ditch digger.

Or those who portray themselves as the wholesome entertainers who’re jovial and aloof.  When we know the sinister inclinations that reside beneath the surface of their smokescreen of innocence.

Then we have those who think they’re psychopathy is blanket that keeps them insulated, protected from the world. A smokescreen protecting from being hurt… again as long as they keep the others away, they won’t be forced to care again and close themselves off from the heartache of betrayal.

But they’re all happy living behind those smokescreens… but what happens when they inhale the smoke that they believe protects them and realize it’s not what they thought it was.

What happens when Gravedigger inhales and is confronted by the fact he’s no more than another toady.  Second fiddle to a man that if he ever stepped out of line would snap him like a dry reed.  The smokescreen you have in place will dissipate and you’ll be left vulnerable and exposed.

And Foley the man who walks around and plays innocent sitting beneath his protector Doom.  What becomes of you when that illusionist smokescreen vanishes and people see you for the horrific monstrosity that you once were.  When these people desert you and all that’s left is you and the darkness which has consumed your whole family.

Finally, we have Jasper Redgrave the artist of the macabre.  When your smokescreen becomes your every waking moment having your heart broken over and over, again and again.  That crippling heartache we all saw on your face when CJ turned his back on you and chose his family over you.

What becomes of them all when they’re forced to breathe deep and they see their horrors before them.  Digger, his mentor pursuing him as he has so many others with fire and fury of a man possessed.  Foley, when that isolation settles in and he’s faced with the fact he is truly alone.  Jasper, who’ll have his heart snapped over and over again, his psycho facade falling away as the pain of that loss courses through him repeatidly.

When their own Smokescreens betray them and their existences become their nightmares.  When they’re living their greatest fears in my presence, three men brought to their knees.  The realization that in the end everything dies especially when you’re faced with a vapor that’ll mentally eat you from the inside out while their greatest fears consume them.

The moment in which this all sets in.  In those moments where their Smokescreens give way to their fears they will all realize, we are not equal.  They will drown in their fears and all of them will fall to Nox.
