Survive

“The streets of Arcadia are a maze.”

“A wild, untamed hunting ground with danger and despair around every turn. For the longest time, as I walked the levels, I thought that I was the minotaur guarding the maze. I had the gun, I had the authority.”

“I had the drive.”

“Funny thing is, though? This maze we call home is festering with blood thirsty, depraved killers that want nothing than to paint the walls with your innards. They stalk the grounds, knives in hand, ice in their veins, prey in their sight.”

“It took me years to learn, but I’m not the monster here. I wish I was the beast, but I’m simply one of the poor bastards Zeus and Gordon sacrificed to the creatures lying within. We sate their bloodlust and the bastards in their thrones sleep soundly at night.”

“But now I know. I don’t need to hunt.”

“The only thing I have to do within these walls is survive.”

“You’re a hell of a hunter, aren’t you Luther? I know all too well just what you’re willing to do to your fellow man for your own amusement. Peeling off skin, tearing bone from flesh with a smile on your face. This is all just one big game to you, isn’t it? You’re a wild animal, an untamed monster let loose in a maze of unsuspecting innocents. They die to sate your thirst and Zeus sits happily knowing you’d never dare to hunt him.”

“I mean, we know what happened to Thomas, don’t we? Zeus threw him into the streets and watched as you slaughtered him like the sacrificial lamb he was.”

“Now you’re allowed to walk freely through the Arcadian maze, to kill and maim to your heart’s content.”

“And, now, I’m next in your sights, aren’t I?”

“It had to happen eventually, didn’t it? This maze is only so big.”

“And Zeus has no use for me anymore other than to feed the beast resting within the maze’s walls. I bet you see me as nothing more than a prey, right? You just wanna watch that crimson ichor seep from my body onto the canvas below.”

“But unlike every other poor bastard you’ve tried to sink your teeth into, I don’t believe myself to be the hunter.”

“Because I’m not fighting to sate a hunger or to hear screams echo off the maze walls.”

“I’m fighting to survive, Luther.”

“Nothing else matters anymore. There’s a target on my back and my back’s against the wall. I don’t need to stalk the levels, Luther. I just need to wait for the monster to come to me.”

“And I’m ready to fight for my life.”

“You want me as a trophy, but I want you as a corpse. Your blood coating my boots doesn’t mean victory, it means survival.”

“So come for me, I’ll be waiting right there in the ring.”

“No one’s above the Law.”

“And though this maze seems like a lawless hellhole, just know…”

“I am the Law.”
