Gravedigger sits in a rickety wooden boat, floating aimlessly on the water. Mist softly circles him, as he places the oar into its holder and relaxes.
“There’s not a person on the face of Arcadia who hasn’t built themselves a legacy off the back of someone else.”
He peers over the edge into the water.
“The very sea I ferried Tombstone across exists upon the backs of those who need to cross it. Without them, it’d be a body of water with no purpose. Their souls may as well feed its very existence.”
Gravedigger looks back at the camera.
“Harold Attano built a career and a legacy off the bloodshed he caused. I can see it all now, Harold. The memories of what you’ve done reside inside my head. You were a faceless man, a nobody, but to the people who’s lives you ruined, you were a somebody, a spectre of hate and destruction.
Your very existence is predicated upon the fact that you ceased others from having one. Their bodies, their souls, they form the very basis for you being across from me at Warzone.”
He shakes his head.
“Yet I’m the ‘bad’ guy? I’m the betrayer?”
Gravedigger scoffs.
“What about you Grimskull? How many men and women have you sent to their deaths, preaching your gospel of pain and sacrifice as higher purpose? How many sacrificed so that you could lead?
How many people were you willing to sacrifice when you opened that door? You more than anyone know all too well what it means to build something upon the backs of those you claim as your own.”
He shakes his head again.
“Yet I’m the ‘bad’ guy? I’m the one who sacrificed those who I claimed to be my own people?”
Gravedigger scoffs.
“And Felix; dear old Felix Foley. You even said it yourself, didn’t you? You’ve lied to the innocence of children for years about hope, luck, belief and the so called fairytale and even recently admitted that you’d deceived them all.
Your entire career; fuck, your entire personality is built upon the deceit and backs of those poor children who believed in you and your message of deceit.”
Gravedigger angrily grabs the oar and starts rowing.
“Yet I’m the fucking ‘bad’ guy.
I did what each and every single one of you have done and will continue to do for the rest of your miserable lives until I send you on your way.
If you want me to be the bad guy, I’ll be the fuckin’ bad guy.
But I’ll be the bad guy left standing at the end.
You should fear that end, because that end is where you’re judged for your sins; for the souls you’ve taken to create the legacy you leave behind.
And that end is where we meet.
It is where I will now send you on your way.”
