[The Odyssey Pool bubbles and hisses. Green liquid bounces up and down as if on a bass speaker, with green fumes lingering in the air.]
[Doom stands on the balcony ledge, looking down into the pool.]
The gathering of a small army was by no means a coincidence. No matter in its creation was left to uncertainty. No portion too small to be analysed. Each and every part of The Pool Boys was a meticulously pieced together plan. Even when aspects of it failed, alternative plans were in place to ensure its success.
[He remembers back to Foley.]
The creation of Scissors – my first test subject. It could’ve gone so horribly wrong, and it almost did, but Felix Foley was the outcome. This was not a variable many expected, but I knew of the possibility.
[His mind then trails back to Destructo Boy.]
And your son, a valiantly little mite if I’d ever seen one. Did I expect him to be immune to my creation? Of course not. But I did plan for it, Maxwell. I planned for everything.
[He turns to face the camera.]
With him in my charge, I knew I’d need you. I knew that to complete my goal of assembling the most dominant force in professional wrestling, The Burned Man must be turned and turned you were.
[His eyes glow green with ire.]
What I did not plan for was your betrayal. I had no alternative plans in place, Maxwell. As much as I knew the day would come when you no longer found support in our allegiance, I expected that I’d be at peace with it.
And then you joined Six Feet Under and burned down The Doom Factory.
[Doom takes a moment to calm himself.]
And Faith had no other choice but to return you to your former self. I didn’t blame your boy. I knew that he was doing what must be done. I accepted it. I considered the variables at play and thought his means would lead you back to us in the Pool Boys.
Then you surprised me once again with yet another betrayal, turning him on us too.
[The pool releases a large burst of green gas.]
I crafted an intricate web that relied on many strands to be successful. From Felix Foley to Destructo Boy to you, The Burned Man. Every part was put in place to be a dominant force in Old School Wrestling. What I did not expect to encounter, would be a fly, a want-to-be-spider, attempting an infestation of my creation.
And it appears that now I’ve caught you, crawling across a web that does not belong to you; a web that was not crafted by you – attempting to navigate it successfully to your own ends.
But you’re not crawling, Maxwell. You’re not safe. This isn’t where you thrive and it certainly isn’t where you survive.
Unbeknownst to you, you’re trapped.
[Doom turns back towards the pool.]
And I’m the Spider.
[Cut.]
