We open in an undisclosed level of Arcadia, where Harold Attano sits on a pile of rubble, sweat pouring off his shirtless body. He shouts down to an unnamed Seeker.
“We’ve been pulling people from the rubble all day! I’m glad we’ve found so many survivors. Get ‘em to the doc to get ‘em patched up.”
Harold helps an older gentleman to his feet and aids him to a cart when the old man wheels on Attano.
“You did this! You worked for him! You’re no better than any of them, no better than that psychopath Nox! You murdered for the Baron, what makes you any better than the rest of them?!”
Harold forcefully redirects the man facing back toward the transportation wagon before speaking.
“Old man, I know you’re traumatized, you’ve seen things that no one should’ve seen. I know you’ve got many years on me. So, you’ve seen friends and family live and die in some of the worst ways out here and with the war, you’ve only been forced to see more. But you want to compare me to them? I question your wisdom in doing that because if you haven’t looked around, I’m one of the ones out here picking up the pieces. While they rend and tear this place asunder to find us, to end us, all because we want to give you all a choice. A choice between a civilization built upon a series of lies or we find out what lies in the great beyond. Behind that door, they all worked so hard to keep hidden from all of you.”
Harold stops short and the old man he’s escorting turns looking him dead in the eyes.
“They’re trying to get War and Conquest to join up with them, they want the second version of the House of Judgment ruling over you all like a looming iron fist ready to drop upon you all and all it would take is one cross word. One little inclination that you or heaven forbid one of the youngers step out of their line and there won’t be someone to pick up the remains.”
Harold sets his jaw and stares down the older man.
“It’s moments like this, like Invasion, when you want men like me on your side. Because I know I’ll never live to be as old as you. I will never get to meet my grandchild if that ever happens. You want a man like me looking out for you because I’m ready to give my life for you and take a life to save you. One shot, one kill, every time for you and these people. Because we’re Seekers, we seek the truth, a choice, and justice at all costs for you all. You don’t just want a man like me on the frontlines, you need a man like me on those frontlines because I am willing to stay and fight as long as I’m alive… and kill till I die.”
