Open Thy Heart

In Promo by Colt Ramsey

Far from the warm embrace of his brethren, Colt Ramsey finds himself coming to inside a cabin. He looks around, assessing his situation before his eyes focus on the cabin’s front entrance.

“I see before me the means to escape this prison,” Colt remarks to himself, his tone quickly turning more dejected. “But I know not if I should open this door, or what may be waiting on the other side.”

“It could be a clear path to freedom, or a trap by which Apokalypsis could ensnare me for good. Either way, I will not fall into temptation.”

“These fools would be so bold as to convince me to try my hand to escape, just as they tried to convince the good Reverend to open that fateful door holding Zion knows what…but just as the Reverend holds firm against their trial, so shall I.”

Colt looks up to the ceiling, his eyes starting to well up with tears as he begins what sounds like a prayer.

“O holy Zion, I call to you now,” he says, closing his eyes to focus on what he has to say. “Your faithful servant finds himself trapped by the enemy, and is in need of your sweet blessing.”

“These trespassers would try to test my devotion to you, try to call your messenger Lionel to open up a path to evil…but I know that he will stay vigilant, and so will I.”

“You are merciful, but you are also vengeful for your people. I pray, O mighty Zion, that you give me the strength to do your will, to enact the vengeance you seek.”

The tears start rolling down Ramsey’s face as he opens his eyes just long enough to wipe those away.

“For these are trying times,” he adds, his voice struggling to maintain a steady inflection. “And I know that you will provide to those who open their hearts…so hear me now, Zion, for I am opening my heart to you.”

“When I stepped into your glorious Church, I sought out the truth…and the truth, your truth, was given unto me. I understand now my purpose, to aid your people…and I seek to aid them even now.”

With that, the Disciple opens his eyes.

“And so, I open my eyes to you, Zion,” he continues, rising to his feet. “I call upon you to aid your faithful servant. Help him make things right, by striking down these fiends and saving your people from whatever plight they may have in store.”

“For the only door I seek to open is the one revealing your mission. I want to save my brethren from this Apokalypsis, and I want to open their hearts to you, O sweet Zion. Give me the strength to carry out your will, to resist temptation as I lay waste to those who would stand against you.”

Colt is interrupted by footsteps from outside, forcing him to drop back to the floor as he mutters quietly to himself.

“War is coming.”
