The camera fades in as we find ourselves at the edge of a giant pool. Surprising crystal clear water that’s depths seem to go on for eons and a single figure seated at it’s edge. He’s not wearing his jacket…he’s not even wearing his mask but it’s clearly Destructo Boy, deep in thought as he dangles his feet into the pool.
“I’ve told you this story time and time again but ever since I was a kid, all I wanted to be was a hero. To save the day, to fix this world and make it a better place. But I wasn’t strong enough, wasn’t resilient enough, wasn’t good enough. I was a child playing make believe in a world of monsters and sooner or later, one of them was going to swallow me whole with little fanfare.”
The Kid runs his fingers through the water absentmindedly, clearly deep into his own thoughts.
“I remember being terrified when you dragged me into this pool, when you submerged me for hours not knowing when I’d be able to take my next breath. When I felt what I thought was darkness spread through my soul. Then I came out, a better man. Confident. Wise. Ready to be the hero I’ve always wanted to be. Thanks to you Stubbins.”
“And I’ve never thanked you for it”
“So I let you talk me into your wild plan. Manipulate my father to becoming just like us so you’d have your happy family you always wanted. I thought the pool would heal him, help him finally get past his guilt but this balance and justice bullshit has made him worse then he ever was.”
The Kid pulls something from his pocket, a pouch full of something that he begins to pour into the pool. Ash.
The Ash from the Dragon Warrior Dojo.
“Because of your pool, my father just killed innocent people all in the name of bringing someone to justice who probably didn’t even know mom existed. You knew this would happen, you knew he would walk in a hero and walk out a monster and now because of you, he’s worse. Blaze is a wild animal, and if this chemical of Nox doesn’t make him see sense…you know what I have to do next.”
“I wanted to be a hero, I thought you gave me that chance…but not like this. That pool is a monkey’s paw I wish I’d never laid hands on and Stubbins, if I have to put him down.”
“There’s no place in Arcadia that will save you from me”
The Kid stands up, walking away as we fade out on the bubbling Pool.
