The Constant

“The smell of burning flesh is something you never forget.”

“Neither is the look of fear, anger, and disdain on the faces of people you swore your life to protect as you push through the crowd and try to bring order to the chaos.”

“For as long as I’ve been on the force I’ve found myself in the center of seemingly every catastrophic event that’s tormented Arcadia. From the Red Light incident to the assault on The People’s Voice.”

“And even now I’m embroiled in the Uprising as it threatens to tear down Arcadia from the inside out.”

“For a while, I thought the only constant to these horrific events… was me.”

“But I realize now. I’m only an accessory because I wanted to help. I wanted truth, I wanted justice.”

“Meanwhile those around me only wanted what would benefit themselves the most, even if it meant innocent Arcadians losing their lives.”

“At the center of all this pain and suffering isn’t me, it’s selfishness, it’s arrogance.”

“And it needs to stop.”

“Last week, I fought through a crowd of my fellow men because one would be reporter plastered Hera’s face all over the front page. I had to punch and kick at innocent men and women because they were riled up and rightfully so. Their thoughts and emotions weaponized by a weak willed man named Colt Ramsey.”

“Isn’t that right, Colt?”

“Yet when I pushed to the center of that riot, all you could ask was if your career was over.”

“All because you posted Narcissa’s face on your paper.”

“Someone who thinks that she can overthrow Zeus and do it better than him. Isn’t that right, Hera? You’re devoted to destabilizing Arcadia but do you even have a plan in place? All I know is you have weapons in hand and a target on the Baron’s back. You want his power, but do you even know what you’d do if you got it?”

“Maybe use it to puppeteer a spineless ghost to help control the narrative?”

“That’s what happened, right Harold?”

“Watching you turn your back on me hurt worst of all, you know. I thought we were in this together for the people, yet you let Zeus yank your leash and did whatever he said without question.”

“You found Hera, you made Colt publish his article, and you abandoned me when I needed you most.”

“But now? Now I can finally take down the constant of this pain at the source.”

“I may not know who destroyed the Red Light District, but I know who capitalized on it.”

“At Red Snow, I’m doing what should have been done a long time ago.”

“I’ll take down Colt, demolish Narcissa, and brutalize Attano.”

“I’m putting a stop to it all.”

“And I’m going to lay down the Law.”

“I can’t bring back the deceased, but I can bring order to the chaos.”

“And once I’m done, I’ll find the man behind the Red Light incident.”

“No one is above the Law.”

“And I am the Law.”
