Anti-Virus

In Harold Attano, Promo by Harold Attano

[Harold sits in a chair back in home a satisfied smirk on his face as he sits in his chair cleaning an old, slightly rusted revolver. A cleaning solution next to him on the side table.  Mr. Nobody takes the rag in his hand and puts some of the solution on the cloth taking care to not spill it on the floor.]

“Out of those who used to know me before… Deathrow, some would say that I was a gun for hire, a mercenary, a simple soulless killer who just executed those he was pointed at.  That fails to take into consideration why I was pointed at those people, why they needed to disappear…”

[Harold holds the revolver up seeing the rust starting to dissipate. He gets a bit more solution and continues to clean.]

“What they failed to recognize is the chaos that could befall us if one person kills the operating systems of Arcadia.  The balancing act which is our little world would be thrown into further anarchy.  It was my purpose to ‘delete’ those who would tip those scales.  You know, like a good virus protection software.”

[Mr. Nobody holds his gun up to the light, its former luster beginning to return.]

“And I am not some cut rate piece of code written by some low-level peon, Jinx.  I am uncompromising, unyielding, and ever vigilant.  Whatever it takes to get the job done, I’m going to do it.  At the end of the day, you’re nothing but a Glitch, a failed script. You failed yourself, you failed me, and now you’re what amounts to an infected program.  Compromised to a fault, and needing to be eliminated.”

[Harold examines his revolver. Only a few superficial rust spots remain giving it an aged, yet functional, appearance as he quickly cocks and dry fires it twice. The action still smooth and fluid, as if it’d never left his hands.]

“You’re exactly as your designation implies, Jinx, a Fatal Error.  Yet here’s the rub, the only one you’re fatal to, is you, and this here, you can call it an executable file.  Yeah, it’s old, still even after cleaning it has a bit of rust on it but it’s good enough to get the job done.  Oh, and don’t think that I’ve not learned a valuable lesson, I will certainly remember to… Double Tap.”

“So, bring what you have to bear my dear hacker, but you’re going to realize you can’t stop Nobody. You can’t defeat Nobody, nobody is going to be your end, and when all is said and done, still, Nobody will miss you.  Now where is that mineral oil…

[Harold gets up from his chair and goes to a trunk in the back of his home.  He sorts through some of his old belongings when there’s a knock at the door.]

“Arcadia Police Department, open up!”

[Comes a voice from outside.]

“Fuck me, now what…”

[Harold’s voice trails off as he walks to the door.]
