Bang

BANG!

“The bullet flies through the air, and time feels like it begins to stop. It all happened so fast, and yet I can’t help but feel like this moment is taking a lifetime.”

“Because there’s only two outcomes once that bullet leaves the barrel.”

“Either I live…”

“Or I die.”

“Think about that. They say that a man dies twice. Once when their heart ceases to beat, and once when his name is forgotten. These last few months in Arcadia, I’ve spent every waking moment trying to prove a point to the people around me. I’ve fought, bled, and cried in front of the masses while I try to bring justice to this lawless fuckin’ wasteland.”

“I left my mark.”

“So much so that Zeus and Gordon sent their personal lapdog to try and put me down.”

“Now, as that bullet flies through the air, you have to ask yourself, Harold. If I die by your hand today, then how long will it take for my name to be forgotten by the people of Arcadia?”

“How many times will my name be spoken by the people as they rally behind a martyr? Just how long will you have to live knowing that you could stop my heart, but you couldn’t stop my beliefs?”

“But I don’t expect you to understand that, Harold. You’re doing what you’ve always done, you’re holding the gun and just following orders like the dog you are. Without the nametag on your collar you’re just as you’ve always claimed to be. You’re nobody, a ghost in these halls who was thrust into the minds of Arcadians not by your own doing, but by mine.”

“I took you by the hand and dragged you by my side. We were allies, comrades, but once a nobody, always a nobody. Arcadia can see what you’ve done, and they know that you’re nothing more than the weapon Zeus used to silence me. My blood will be on not just your hands, but on the hands of Zeus as well.”

“So, as that hot lead threatens to pierce my heart, I have to ask, Attano.”

“If I live, if I wrestle that gun out of your hand and put it to your skull… who will remember you?”

“Once you take your last breath, people won’t remember you as an unstoppable assassin, not the man who loyally served Zeus. No, they’ll speak of your attempt, and in a months time they’ll forgetĀ  you. The Nobody of Arcadia living up to his name, dying for the second time before your body even goes cold.”

“So I hope your aim was good, Harold. Because at the end of the day, even if my body goes cold and this breath is my last, I’ll live on through Arcadia and its people.”

“And you’ll be forgotten as quickly as you could pull that trigger.”

“No one’s above the Law, Harold.”

“And like it or not, to the people of Arcadia?”

“I am the Law.”
