My Mother Told Me

In Promo, Stubbins Doom by DOOM

[I watch as Felix Foley’s mom leaves the room. That was quite the revelation, wasn’t it? I can sense the pain in my good friend. Hell, I can see it etched upon the contours of his face.]

[My mother didn’t discipline me.]

[She drove me. She wanted me to be the very best at everything I did. I had her full support throughout my entire life. It was unequivocal and impassioned.]

[Never once did she ever raise her hand to me. I bet a fact like that would drive Master Ken crazy, would it not?]

[Except that must’ve taken some discipline in of itself.]

[Imagine being the parent to a boy with superior intelligence who tells you when you’re doing things wrong; regularly. Imagine being frustrated daily by the sheer arrogance of a child that you birthed into this world, who knows that not many can operate on his level.]

[imagine that and yet… nothing.]

[With the photograph in hand, Foley walks to the steps and looks up them. I watch him from the doorway.]

[Not a finger raised. Not a kick down the stairs. Not a hospital visit. Nothing.]

[Foley’s pop brutalized a poor boy as if he were a man. He claimed it was about discipline.]

[While discipline is often touted as a key to success, some argue that it’s not as important as it’s made out to be. They believe that creativity, spontaneity, and freedom are stifled by too much discipline.]

[They argue that strict routines and rigid structures can limit one’s ability to think outside the box and innovate.]

[Moreover, they contend that discipline can lead to unnecessary stress and pressure, which can be counterproductive. They believe that individuals should be allowed to work at their own pace and in their own way, without the constraints of discipline.]

[Have you ever thought that perhaps you’re putting too much pressure on yourself, Ken? Have you ever considered that discipline is not all that it’s touted to be?]

[Look at me; I’m a success.]

[I’m a former OSW World Heavyweight Champion and Mount Olympus winner. I’m one half of the current OSW Tag Team Champions, yet my mother showed me no discipline at all.]

[I was given all the encouragement and freedom to be precisely what I wanted to be, when I wanted to be it and look how that has worked out.]

[Felix Foley] “I received plenty of it.”

[Felix Foley] “Now it’s your turn.”

[Foley finishes his monologue.]

[Felix Foley] “Sorry about that, Doom buddy.”

[DOOM] “It’s okay, Felix. Do you know what’s humerous?”

[Felix Foley] “What’s that?”

[DOOM] “My mother taught me differently.”

[Felix smiles.]

[Felix Foley] “Well I’m glad to hear that.”
