Into the Ocean

“Be careful, you’ll fall”

A loving father calls out to his child, teetering on the edge of a great pool. The child stumbles, falling into the water. The father’s greatest fears become reality. For neither he nor the child can swim.

He watches helplessly as the child is claimed by the water, sinking slowly down into the endless depths. A part of him died that day, part that could never be repaired.

In the father’s grief, I am there, my guitar playing out the melody that will become his song. For in death, as in life, the song plays on.

‘I want to swim away but don’t know how
Sometimes it feels just like I’m falling in the ocean’

They say that a brush with death defines you. It changes you. That you never feel more alive than when you’re an inch from death.

But when a part of you dies, when the waters of life turn tumultuous, amigos, you can’t swim away from fate. It consumes you, you sink in your grief.

You drown in it.

I know all too well that feeling of drowning. The pool of grief that consumes you. I have felt that drowning feeling since seeing the life fade from her eyes.

Death comes for all, and my song plays on.

‘Not knowing how to think
I scream aloud, begin to sink
My legs and arms are broken down
With envy for the solid ground
I’m reaching for the life within me
How can one man stop his ending?’

There is a father out there, desperately trying to save his son from drowning.

He sees the waters, knows of their danger and found himself powerless to stop the boy from falling in.

You did not drown in that pool, Destructo Boy, but part of you still died that day.

The part of you capable of love, the part that sees your father with the same eyes he sees you. He would do anything to save you from the waters you find yourself in, but all the love in the world cannot bring him back his true son.

Your father was powerless to stop your newfound friends from introducing you to that Odyssey Pool, just as he is powerless now to stop Doom’s influence on you.

Doom, who took you under his evil wing, awoken the darker side of you within those waters, but, chico, you’re dead to your true self inside.

Inside those waters, your padre lost his son.

Death still came for you, Destructo Boy. Doom killed the better part of you that day.

‘Into the ocean, end it all
Into the ocean, end it all’

This week, Apokalypsis comes to silence the song of Doom.

Our Conquest continues in unity.

Our War brought forth in force.

Death comes to you, products of the Odyssey Pool.

I will be there as always, my song will play on long after yours falls silent in your father’s tears.

Your brush with death changed you, it defines you, and you’re still drowning in it.

‘Into the ocean, end it all’
