La cucaracha, la cucaracha
Ya no puede caminar
Porque no tiene, porque le falta
Una pata para andar
One of the more misunderstood creatures in Arcadia is the humble cucaracha.
An important part of the Arcadian ecosystem, the cockroach will scavenge and feed on just about anything that it can find.
But when that little cockroach scrambles across your kitchen floor, mi amigos, instinct kicks in and you start swinging. Yet no matter what, you just can’t seem to kill the little cucaracha. Therein lies the secret of the cockroach.
Try as you might to end its life, the cockroach can survive anything you throw at it. Cut off its leg and it will survive. It will revive itself. Fire, radiation, even starvation cannot kill the humble cockroach.
No matter what, La Cucaracha lives to scavenge another day.
Esta coja cucaracha
Nunca se da por vencida
Y aunque le falte una pata
Baila siempre en la cocina
So how does one kill the humble cockroach?
When every time you think you have come close to squashing that bug, it scurries away. When bug bombs, radiation, fire and burying the damned bug alive don’t seem to kill it, the solution to ending the cockroach’s song appears more simple.
You have to squash it under your boot. Only, one has to stop it escaping first.
You’ve been forced to scavenge Tombstone’s scraps for long enough now Drewitt, mi amigo. The Ferryman has had his boot trained on you, Cockroach. Time and time again, he has attempted to stomp you under that boot, to ferry you to your resting place.
But time and time again, you have proven yourself akin to La Cucaracha. The thorn in the Ferryman’s side, the little bug he just cannot kill. You’ve been burned, crushed, maimed and each time you regrow and come back.
Just like a cockroach, you’ve survived the nuclear winter of Tombstone’s vengeance. You survived the flames, you were unearthed by The Burned Man to live another day. Yet it’s cost you everything, the weight of eternity is on your shoulders. The truth is, Cucaracha, that you want nothing more than for that boot to finally crush you. To put you out of your misery.
For an eternity is a long time when your song is stuck on repeat.
La cucaracha, la cucaracha
Ya no puede caminar
Porque no tiene, porque le falta
Las dos patitas de atrás
I know not what awaits through that door. I know not if she waits for me, or if we will unearth the answers to your problem. But in your eyes, I see the answer to the question of La Cucaracha.
These strings cry out your ballad, reaching right into your soul and touching that place only music can infiltrate. Allowing you to feel, filling your heart with agony.
Mesmerised by song, the cockroach stops running. It awaits the boot to punctuate its existence.
Embrace the song, Cucaracha, let the music touch your heart. And that sweet embrace of death will find you, for when the song ends… So, finally, do you.
